Leonard Schiller once counted among New York's literary lions, but illness and ten years of writer's block have lowered his profile, almost to the point of obscurity. When Heather Wolfe, an ambitious literature major, asks to interview him for her thesis on his work, her interest forces him to address the issues that he has avoided all these years, and stirs in him feelings he has long forgotten, much to his daughter's consternation.

One movie starring Frank Langella and Lili Taylor. Damn. A scarily accurate look into the world of writers and writing (of creative folk, period)-- the fears, the fuck-ups, the endless fall-out from choices made and lives compromised, including one's own. Measured pacing gives the film a veneer of elegance that is earned by the intelligent script and top-notch acting. (Ambrose is good but is the weakest link, in my opinion.) The film deserves a far wider audience than it has received. For me, this film and the Savages are what No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood seem to be for everyone else on the planet.

Great performances, and characters that seemed very real and complex. I loved the father-daughter interplay as well as the subtle illustration of the differences between writer and reader. A very moving film.

Brilliantly executed, with superb performances by Frank Langella and the rest of the cast. No simple truths, no simple resolutions. A thoughtful, original, impressive film.
