To many reviews these days refer to a film being a "slow burn" as if that is a bad thing. "Starry Eyes" comes on like a new friendship. We are given time to get to know the characters and the life they all have . Rather than yank the rug out from under us they drag us slowly toward the edge of a cliff; you know the drop is coming, you just don't know when and oh what a drop it is. The film descends into a level of brutality I doubt any "major" studio would attempt.

Not a slow burn so much as a strong build up, and once STARRY EYES gets where it's going the film becomes explosively violent and shocking.

Terrifying and fresh. Starry Eyes may have more drama than horror, but that doesn't mean its not entertaining. The final scenes are where true horror come out, but it feels like a long wait. It all ends up being confusing and messy. Through all its faults, Starry Eyes is still better than most modern horror films.
