Difficile de ressortir de la sÃ©ance sans avoir Ã©tÃ© affectÃ© par cette histoire, ou plutÃ´t, cette tranche de vie(s). OÃ¹ comment des hommes et des femmes cherchent et se cherchent toujours, jouent sur des registres diffÃ©rents, espÃ¨rent diffÃ©remment et se construisent avec plus ou moins d'inconscience. Une belle rÃ©alisation aux rapports humains Ã la fois empreints de douceur, de bestialitÃ© et d'une domination presque malsaine.

I love the documentary style of this movie. It's very realistic yet artistic. You probably won't resonate much if you were not Chinese. Bravo for the director making this movie.

Artful, dreary, and pointless -- it's time for Lou Ye to lighten up.

The indoor scenes are so dark that you can barely make out the outlines of the bodies, much less distinguish who is who. Because almost half the film is this dim, it makes for a frustrating viewing experience. The jerky cinematography compounds the irritation.

This film by Chinese director Lou Ye will keep me up for a while tonight, for sure, with an intricate plot around a still-taboo subject--which has thus far prevented the film from being seen in China (though that's exactly where I saw it this evening). The French (and seemingly even Japanese) film noir influences seemed apparent throughout.
