Sleeper (2012)

Enigmatically silent, and driven by love, the man known as Resnik was imprisoned for butchering another man and kidnapping the young girl at the heart of his obsession, Kelly. For the safety of his fellow inmates, Resnik was only ever allowed to wake, eat and exercise alone, after dark, he learned to like it. Now having escaped during a midnight transfer, Resnik is headed back to Moonlight Bay, and Detectives Raynor and Molloy have only 12 hours to stop him before the sun goes down, and the carnage begins, again.

There's less witty zingers and more slapstick than the usual Allen film. What's interesting is that he's great at that too. Plus breathtaking visuals and maybe the best banana peel gag ever. Note to self: write a book called "I Beat a Man Strawberry Insensible."

Woody Allen's first great all-around film, and it's absolutely hilarious. Helps watching Buster Keaton beforehand.

I defy anyone not to cry with laughter at this film.

I LOVE Woody Allen. He can do no wrong. This is one of his earlier, funnier movies.

A flawed masterpiece of pure slapstick exhuberance. One of the most consistently sidesplitting comedies I've ever seen. The whole thing feels rushed and, as we watch, we realize that we're not in it for the quality of the story. Sleeper doesn't work towards anything except making us laugh until it hurts, as most comedies should. In that sense, it's one of the great achievements of the movies. A tie for Allen's funniest film with "Love & Death".
