Sing 2 (2021)

Buster and his new cast now have their sights set on debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City. But with no connections, he and his singers must sneak into the Crystal Entertainment offices, run by the ruthless wolf mogul Jimmy Crystal, where the gang pitches the ridiculous idea of casting the lion rock legend Clay Calloway in their show. Buster must embark on a quest to find the now-isolated Clay and persuade him to return to the stage.

It feels like a screensaver, a movie generated by an algorithm, the same algorithm that calculated the likely profit on extending the Sing franchise.

Robbie Collin 27 Jan 2022

It can’t be denied that as a piece of cover-all-bases, hi-sheen, lo-thought, built-to-order corporate product, the film runs with a steady and satisfying whirr.

Although it did not manage to surpass the first, Sing 2 is a show full of good animation, a predictable but entertaining script and applauding musical performances.

It does a good job for what it’s trying to do, a light hearted family movie. The songs and animation were enjoyable and while the plot got a bit silly at points they touched on just enough real life problems to make it relatable. I’m a little suspect on the moral of the story but the kids and I had fun.

Sure, some of the window dressing and plot peculiarities are different this time, but there are no real surprises.
