i saw this a logn time ago. claudette colbert is so cool! this is a long movie but its easy to get interested. joseph cotton is also the best part of the movie. and monty wooly is good. it makes me cry and it is realistic about the war i think. its such a good movie that talks about a stroy thats very familiar. people dont change. they dont make movies like this anymore.

Poor Robert Walker! The film is a real weepy, but I should have watched it before I started reading about the whole Robert Walker/Jennifer Jones/ David O. Selznick scandal. It really hurt the beauty of the Walker Jones story line for me.

"Don't kid yourself. I'm no Tim. I joined up because Top Hat suddenly seemed a little silly and I wanted to have some fun and excitement. I laughed up my sleeve at all the fellows who were giving out with noble motives, the Four Freedoms, and all the rest of it, but I found out that it all added up to a simple, corny phrase that I couldn't laugh off. Home sweet home."

Long and depressing. Woolley is good as the grouch who moves in with the girls. Never was a big fan of Jennifer Jones, but the other two are good, as is Cotten. The last scene always draws out the tears. . .
