Hal Hartley's formula is to tease us with what appears to be a succession of crazy red herring but, defying all credibility and charming us at the same time.

Hal Hartley's dialogue isn't for everyone. But it just cracks me up. (This is a running joke between my family and me.) I first saw this one in law school. (Thank goodness for the Vinegar Hill theater in Charlottesville, VA.) It was my first Hal Hartley film, and it's still my favorite.
