I read the play and did a scene for it in my college acting class. I can't remember a great deal about the movie other than thinking Jeff Bridges should play the Nolte role and vice versa. Sam Shepard's play was much better too from what I recall.

Been awhile since I watched this, but seems I liked this movie better than most people I suppose. Keener and Finney outshine the bigger stars in secondary parts.

Possesses the open-ended, continual off-kilterness of Shepard theater.

Powerhouse performances can't save sloppy Simpatico from the glue factory.

Lawrence Toppman 17 Jul 2008

Atmosphere goes only so far in a story where the major characters fade from memory.
