I'm always impressed by every Bunuel movie I watch. Each one feels surprising and new to me...as is Simon of the Desert. However, the 30 minutes, though good, I felt if was repetitive. The rushed ending was the best thing for this film. This movie is not in the same league as Viridiana or his French movies.

Bunuel looks at the fifth-century ascetic saint as only he can. Shortened in length for budgetary reasons I found the conclusion satisfying. Claudio Brook is excellent as Simon.

Short, very well made tale whose only fault is its underwhelming conclusion of the tale.

Though technically unfinished, it still feels complete. The final sequence is a brilliant solution to the budget constraints, and makes it that much more fascinating. Love that Bunuel humor.
