Amazing pace and intensity with rich details and decent twists. The corruption part of the story is not too novel compared to the stories involving politicians since 1980s. Yet, the movie is far more realistic for showing almost all characters with flaws (one hero a spineless bureaucrat, another into shooting pornography and with a paunch, the heroin with a shadowy past, the ideologue with extramarital affair etc) and a bizzare climax (where the heroes do not defeat the goons in a blaze of violence). Beautifully shot.

One of the best political satire of Indian cinema & a powerful film indeed. Emraan Hashmi gives his career best performance & Abhay Deol is equally amazing as well. As usual Kalki is an indo-american girl but at the end, she explodes like a volcano which was stunning. Dibakar Banerjee is certainly the modern Shyam Benegal with the way he portrayas the reality of the country & the dramatic tension which he creates. Hats-off for giving a magnificent film & hope it sweeps all the film festivals of 2012.

An adaptation of 1969 French movie ' Z '. Shanghai is not a pure political thriller as it claims to be. In fact it deals more about the 'puppets' of politicians. A plot - It got everything you needed - a political killing, inside jobs, thugs, corrupted police officers, honest public servants and the helpless peasants. The script encounters the real kingpins very rarely. Most of the time it respects their positions, referring to them as ma'm or sir, not mentioning a name, and giving you a feel of their mightiness. It is one of those rare instances when the script itself starts behaving like the characters in it - scared to face the untouchables, thus not giving us a piece of conspiracy. Hence the cinematography here is clear, sharp, fancy and colourful, a visual treat, instead of a dark or a murkier frame which usually goes good with thrillers like this. The director had done an excellent job in making the Indian version. And casting is the best part. Each and everyone have done justice to their roles. A must watch.
