Séraphine (2008)

The tragic story of French naïve painter Séraphine Louis aka Séraphine de Senlis (1864-1942), a humble servant who becomes a gifted self-taught painter. Discovered by prominent critic and collector William Uhde, she came to prominence between the wars grouped with other naïve painters like Henri Rouseau only to descend into madness and obscurity with the onset of the Great Depression and World War II.

A list of the striking images that Provost composes would be long and enticing, even though words cannot do them or the movie justice.

very good movie, seraphine really captivated me and made me forget I was watching actresses and actors. love the depiction of the artist being inspired from "above" bit very sad that the artistic genius drives her crazy and she's unable to create art later in life. i dont remember studying seraphine in art history, but I will find out more about her now.

I didn't expect it, judging by its somewhat yawn inducing thematics (on paper, at least), but SÃ©raphine was actually a great cinematic experience. Quite simply a touching, heartwarming drama, and I liked it very much. Surely, it's bordering on melodrama towards the end, but still, this movie is very good.
