A story set against the Mountain Meadows Massacre, the film is based upon the tragedy which occurred in Utah in 1857. A group of settlers, traveling on wagons, was murdered by the Mormons. All together, about 140 souls of men, women and children, were taken.

A great movie but it was so sad to watch. Jon Voight is such a great actor.

The cruel simplicity of the atrocity is made needlessly chaotic by artless camerawork that swishes rapidly back and forth across the action, to the accompaniment of a syrupy soundtrack.

September Dawn is a one-dimensional portrayal of religious extremism, and the film is very violent. The Mountain Meadows Massacre is a very interesting topic, but September Dawn is a disappointing film.

Crazy brainwashed Mormons go on a killing spree. Sounds like a horror movie but sadly it's a true story.
