Satyricon (1969)

After his young lover, Gitone, leaves him for another man, Encolpio decides to kill himself, but a sudden earthquake destroys his home before he has a chance to do so. Now wandering around Rome in the time of Nero, Encolpio encounters one bizarre and surreal scene after another.

True, the various strands are never bound together, but with material this sumptuous it really doesn't matter.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've seen it maybe 5 dozen times in the past 7 years! However, the DVD version is nowhere nearly as good as the one shown in theatres. The DVD cut is probably missing at least 5 minutes of key scenes. Satyricon is one of the few movies I can say has truly inspired my artistic career!

Fellini has pulled out his imagination and slapped it down on the table for all of us to enjoy. This film is extremely beautiful, every single shot is a masterpiece. Yes!
