Saturn 3 (1980)

In the future, Earth is overcrowded and the population relies on distant bases to be fed. In the Saturn 3 station, Major Adam and the scientist Alex, who is also his lover and has never been on Earth, have been researching hydroponics for three years in the base alone with their dog Sally. Captain Benson arrives Saturn 3 with Hector, incapable to controlling his emotions he transfers his homicidal tendency and insanity to Hector. Now Major Adam and Alex are trapped in the station with a dangerous psychopath robot.

It's easy to see why Saturn 3 has achieved a certain type of cult appeal over the years- it has an incredible cast, an interesting killer robot running amok, some cool ideas, and a beautiful score by famed composer Elmer Bernstein.

Saturn 3 is a 1980 science fiction film starring Kirk Douglas, Farrah Fawcett and Harvey Keitel. Direction is credited to Stanley Donen but the project was conceived by John Barry who was due to direct until a dispute with Douglas led to his being fired. The screenplay was written by award-winning British novelist Martin Amis. n the distant future, single man and woman scientific team living on one of Saturn's moons to grow food for the starving Earth, have their isolation shattered when a deranged killer, masquerading as a visiting technology expert, arrives at their lonely outpost to take over their work and build a lethal creation: a super-intelligent 8-foot robot which later takes a murderous mind of its own. Some of the space effects shots appeared lackluster compared to the new standard set by Star Wars. The film included brief nude scenes by both Farrah Fawcett and a 31 years older Kirk Douglas.

Retro and yet ahead of its time in its own way. That robot scared the shit out of me as a kid.

2 stars for Farrah Fawcett (kay she deserves more but the stupid killer robot really drags the movie down). I think at one point, the robot cuts off one of the love interests head (or expendable crew member - harvey keitel or Kirk Douglas) and places it upon its shoulder/neck thinking it could woo Ms Fawcett...silly robot.
