It's one of those mundane films where nothing really happens and yet it's still meaningful and more importantly entertaining.

?Don't let the b*stards grind you down!? Ah, beautiful. Makes me want to chant northern rantings over and over again. A forgotten part of British film, the Kitchen Sink film, and if anyone gets the opportunity they should have a watch of this, as it's pure class. Albert Finney, boozy-youth rebel, is a legend as the philandering womaniser who ultimately gets his comeuppance. Do you feel suppressed by the system? Maybe this is one to have a butchers at then?

Albert Finneys portrail of Arthur Seaton, Alan Sillitoes anti heroe is superb, filmed in Black and White it perfectly defines the life and times of a frustrated factory worker stuck in a dead end job in a dead end town in the early sixties, a metaphor which still carries through to the call centre Britain we live in today!

A classic British film with Albert Finney stealing the show as England's answer to Marlon Brando; trying to make sense out of a life which exists entirely between the walls of the factory and the pub. Gritty and realistic, this is a must for anyone interested in an alternative history of the '60's or just anyone who appreciates great acting.

Albert Finney becomes the hero of the angry young men - generation in this the finest performance of his youth.
