It's yet another reason why Toshiro Mifune was so freaking amazing--the last scene is worth the slow pacing. It's a sobering ending, but it's a good film all in all.

You know I hate saying stuff like this....but Toshiro Mifune is punk rawk...God that was lame, why did I say that. But seriously Toshiro is so fuckin' Ghostface he has got no time for corrupt bureaucratic bullshit (translation: see this film)

Hmmm.. the end doesn't do justice to the anticipation built throughout the movie, however I still find it very satisfying. The fight between Nakadai and Miufune meant a crucial crux for the movie when it began... but it lacks any such intensity!

Directed by Masaki Kobayashi Starring Toshiro Mifune, Yoko Tsukasa, Tatsuyoshi Ehara, Etsuko Ichihara, Isao Yamagata One of the better samurai movies with Toshiro Mifune not directed by Akira Kurosawa. On a lesser grander scale, the film by Masaki Kobayashi happens to be a good study of character, a combination of family drama and swashbuckling action with a social tone. And you couldn?t ask for a more fitting ending: duel and death. The actors that support the ubiquitous Mifune is outstanding. Best Scene: Father and son defy orders to commit suicide.
