Saludos Amigos (1942)

A whimsical blend of live action and animation, "Saludos Amigos" is a colorful kaleidoscope of art, adventure and music set to a toe-tapping samba beat. From high Andes peaks and Argentina's pampas to the sights and sounds of Rio de Janeiro, your international traveling companions are none other than those famous funny friends, Donald Duck and Goofy. They keep things lively as Donald encounters a stubborn llama and "El Gaucho" Goofy tries on the cowboy way of life....South American-style.

Tra i classici d'animazione meno conosciuti, Saludos Amigos riesce ancora ad emozionarci, tutto in meno di un ora ed in tema sudamericano.

Its sort of a early documentary / featurette with a bit of culture and some decent Disney animated shorts.

Disney's first package film Saludos Amigos is an okay, but mostly forgettable effort. The animation is actually pretty good for its small budget, the score is fitting the location and the last segment Aquarela do Brasil is the highlight of the film as it features artistic animation and terrific humorous interactions between Donald Duck and ever amusing Jose Carioca. But all of the other segments are pretty uninspired and far from memorable unfortunately leading to a slim, pretty dated travelogue.

Well this one's a mixed bag. Really feels like the type of thing you'd show an Elementary school Spanish class, and that's actually probably a good use for it. It's a weird cartoon compilation/documentary/behind the scenes piece that spends a lot of time having a narrator teach you about Latin American history and culture. Some of it's interesting enough, but too often it got boring for me, even at a meager 40 minute runtime. The educational segments can get a little too dry, and not all of the cartoon segments work, but Donald's shenanigans are always good for a laugh (and perhaps not so coincidentally the educational bits provided in his segments are the ones that I most remember), and the final animated segment is incredibly beautiful. Even if you don't see the full film, the final segment is definitely worth a watch; the rest of it? eh, not so much.

The first in series of package features from Walt Disney, but this one, despite being in the animated classics canon is more of a documentary on South American culture with animated scenes with a running time of 42 mins. The shortest Disney animated feature. Perhaps the most forgettable too.
