A Latvian history-lesson done with an impressive technique. The story, that for me is unknown, is mixed with fiction. The plot goes from historical stuff to the mind of the director. She is depressed, suicidal and there is not much delight here. Familial mental illness are other keywords here. A brave film, lovely crafted and something very original. There are several things that I don't like here. It's really hectic - the pace is superfast. It's also a bit tiring after a while. A monotone story that goes on with only one voice is demanding. Signe Baumane has done everything here. She is the director, the writer, the voice, the editor and the animator. Very impressive debut indeed. 6 out of 10 mental issues.

Bold, darkly comic, refreshingly honest and self-deprecating.

It's a very powerful confessional film. Signe Baumane goes through the history of her family to find the roots of her own psychological problems. She goes deeper and deeper, calls things by their proper names, analyses the history of her family and of her country, finally draws a film not only to express herself, but also to help people with such problems to understand themselves and to give them a great hope in the fight with their disease. Finally film appears to be very life-asserting, vital, optimistic. Thank you for this job! It's certainly worth watching.

The bravery of Ms. Baumane’s own coping methods (which some may disagree with) brings her tough-minded film to a cleareyed, forward-looking conclusion that doesn’t lose sight of her demons.

It is a funny and daring movie with a haunting story and beautiful animation.
