Ring of Bright Water (1969)

Stuck in a dead-end job, Graham Merrill adopts an otter, Mij, as a pet and then moves to an isolated village in western Scotland. Together they set out to explore the curious and magnificent natural wonders that surround their seaside home. Soon, Graham finds himself falling in love with the beautiful town doctor, Mary. Before long, the three become inseparable friends.

I have this film on video, but i haven't been able to watch it for 5 years. I'm almost crying just thinking about it. It's so so so sad. Unless you have a heart of stone, this film will make you cry for at least half an hour after it has finished.

If you have ever dreamed of physically experiencing the centres of the souls of all persons living and passed on, then that is kind of like what watching this movie is like. A man, an otter, and two and a half hours of Scottish landscape cinematography.

Sweet little flick about a man and his otter. Plenty of nature footage, frolicking animals and breathtaking scenery, combined with a poetic search for purpose and meaning in nature. It's "Withnail & I" without the booze. And one of them's an otter.
