Amenábar is no stranger to psychologically vivid thrillers with ghostly overtones, but Regression feels depressingly like journeyman work.

I think Ethan Hawke is a workaholic. He makes some pretty good films, and then he makes dog shit films like Regression. The worst part is, he's the best thing in Regression. This movie sucks. Its not scary, it has 0 suspense, they got some weird ass scenes involving a naked old woman. Everything about this movie blows hard. It gets a 1 because of Ethan Hawke, who CARRIED this garbage. Don't watch this junk.

By no means the disaster (at least artistically) it's been painted as, this is an unusual horror movie -- one that critiques and subverts its own genre.

I don't understand how this movie has such a bad rating average when it is notably good . I suppose that most of the critics can't cope with the unexpected end that this movie has.

It's not a horror story, although the trailer tries to paint it as one. It's not really a mystery either. You can't even call it a thriller, because it's a long way from thrilling. Emma Watson and David Thewlis turn in good performances, and Ethan Hawke isn't bad either, but not even they can elevate this from being 100 minutes of pretty boring and unremarkable stuff.
