Red State is one of the more grim and disturbing horror movies I've seen in a while. It's not perfect. It's too quickly paced. Feels a little rushed in places, as if it could have used an extra twenty minutes just to flesh things out a bit more believably. Also, not all the dialogue works, some of it feeling too written for the good actors to deliver convincingly. But any flaws aside, Red State will get under your skin. It's villain is truly terrifying, and the actors give solid performances all around. It's also frequently hilarious. So while not necessarily a masterpiece, Red State earns points because it's a movie designed to get a rise, bad or good, out of everyone who watches it, and it accomplishes exactly that. Kevin Smith can pat himself on the back for this one.

This flick is a switch of what we are use to seeing from legendary director Kevin Smith. This movie was marketed as a horror thriller but I found it to be just a thriller but a good one. A awesome cast Michael Parks,Stephen Root, & John Goodman. And if I must say I think this is Michael Parks best preferments yet A must see @mikes_moviepick

I don't see why people are complaining saying this was a bad movie when in fact it's a great movie. It's different from other Kevin Smith films it's more of a serious movie than comedy. Red State is about religious fanatics who justify their actions with God. This movie is a one of a kind I've never seen a movie like Red State. I haven't seen many films about religious fanatics or cults that's why I think this is such a great film.

This review might be a little biased because of my love for Kevin Smith, but Red State reminds me of everything that used to be in the horror genre. Nothing too flashy, more slow burning than anything. Smith takes a fairly complex and sensitive subject and turns it into a full out riot. John Goodman and Michael Parks shine as protagonist and antagonist. Eerie, funny, and not too smart.
