Realive (2016)

Marc, a successful, ambitious man, is diagnosed with terminal cancer, and is given a few months to live. Unable to accept death, he decides to cryogenically freeze himself. The love of his life is devastated. Seventy years later, Marc becomes the first cryogenic resuscitated person in history. But this doesn't happen in the idealized way he dreamt of.

Like a "Black Mirror" episode combined with a philosophy seminar, "Realive" has plenty of brains. Yet it has a heart, too, and that adds a surprising amount of emotion to this above-average science-fiction film.

There's a lot to chew on in "Realive," and it surprisingly works for the most part, offering a mature, introspective take on weird science.

I stopped watching early into the movie after they cut off a lizard's tail because it looked like they actually tortured that lizard for real plus the narration was annoying.

This is a beautiful, yet sad film. If you're looking for a emotionally moving, real life, heart felt, sci-fi film (only sci-fi as far as the medical technology) then this is it. A wonderful look at someones life lived, and makes you reflect on your own.

The movie is written from an atheistic worldview, which gives the movie a biased philisophical slant, but it was still interesting until the end. The ending was terrible---the lead's actions are selfish and self-righteous, not to mention irrational. SPOILER: He was apparently distraught by numerous previous failed attempts, but it is not as if the scientists planned to cause them harm. Who can blame scientists for trying to save life and failing, when it is done by the most competent means known at the time? Furthermore, he would forfeit his love's opportunity to be revived because of his selfish act, done under a misguided sense of altruism. The movie ends with the lead in desperate need of psychiatric help for his mental breakdown. Three stars because it was interesting until the stupid ending.
