Donald Sutherland's menacing performance as a corrupt sleazy blackmailer private detective, gives the film all the props it needs.

Donald Sutherland transforms this from being an okay suspense film to something that lives in the memory. He transcends the mundanity that bogs the film down and makes this something that lives in the memory.
