Prince of Foxes (1949)

In 1500, Duke Cesare Borgia hopes to marry his sister to the heir apparent of Ferrara, which impedes his conquest of central Italy. On this delicate mission he sends Andrea Orsini, his sister's lover and nearly as unscrupulous as himself. En route, Orsini meets Camilla Verano, wife of the count of Citta' del Monte, and sentiment threatens to turn him against his deadly master, whom no one betrays twice...

Based loosely around Cesare Borgia's terror in Italy. Love story. War. Castles. Chivalry. Good acting. Machiavellian politics at work.

Great film,actors were brilliant,war & romance, humour & poetry plus for fab scenery and interiors from Italy & R.S.M. etc.. black & white movie in fantastic quality. I recomend it.

A sprawling story of Renaissance politics, betrayal, and love, this epic tale is well-shot and beautifully cast. Tyrone Power plays the spy of the evil duke (Orson Welles), sent into the castle of a small, peaceful village. Love mingles his quest for power, and true loyalty emerges. Tender scenes dot the already breathtaking landscape of on-location European architecture and hillsides. A moving story, and much fulfilling.
