Pottersville (2017)

Maynard, a beloved local businessman is mistaken for the legendary Bigfoot during an inebriated romp through town in a makeshift gorilla costume. The sightings set off an international Bigfoot media spectacle and a windfall of tourism dollars for a simple American town hit by hard times. When Brock Masterson, reality TV's "Monster Hunter," arrives to hunt the beast, Maynard agonizes over whether to come clean, destroying the rebirth of his beloved town, or perpetuate the inadvertent hoax.

Shannon deserves better than this and that might be aimed at the rest of the cast. The filmmakers adopt a style that doesn't embrace the darker elements of the script before tacking on that fuzzy conclusion. This is a Christmas film that won't appeal to the masses or the people it was marketed to. The Fuzzies are the most interesting part of the film and I would've watched that film with the bigfoot aspect included. The biggest issue they have is the tone, they never go to that darker element of the script and just seem intent to be floating on the surface. This had a lot of potential and I feel Shannon was looking at the funny moments of the script without considering how the filmmakers would turn the script into a film. Good for a night in but not a classic that will be rewatched over time. 12-03-2018.

I have never seen such an excellent cast squandered so frustratingly on a project as worthless as Pottersville. The best thing you can say about this dull, nearly Kirk Cameron quality holiday film is that it is harmless... and that Kirk Cameron had nothing to do with it. It is dumb, uninteresting, and almost entirely laugh-free with the exception of one running gag involving people with "fury" fetishes... look it up. I really wanted to like Pottersville if only because the cast is awesome but the material is so bad. The premise is absurd, the potholes are many, and the jokes are few and far between. Sadly I got the impression that those involved in the making of Pottersville clearly have big hearts, unfortunately they don't have the brains to match.

Quirky and unique PotterSville is the perfect "change of pace" dark comedy of the season. The acting is solid, the dialogue is decent and there's nothing quite like it this year.

This film is hilarious & quirky & the cast is obviously amazing and does not disappoint. We watched it with our kids and it is one of those rare films that both adults and kids will laugh along with. Our son suggested we watch it every year during the holidays, and I think we will!

Needing an escape from all the Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas (or Holiday) films my wife has put on the DVR, I will be watching this. As for all the long blowhard reviews I don't bother reading them if they feel the need to go more than a paragraph especially if they are mostly negative, it's my dime and my time.
