Mike D'Angelo 01 May 2013

The film is never less than fascinating, but it appears to be so intensely personal as to be all but indecipherable to viewers not personally acquainted with the filmmaker, or at least in possession of the press kit.

Dan Sullivan 05 Nov 2013

Post Tenebras Lux is a film rich with sheer material presence, making good on Reygadas's apparent intention to make the viewer truly feel the audible and the visible, but his pictorial gimmickry can only do so much aesthetic heavy-lifting.

Tony McKibbin 18 Mar 2013

Reygadas is, from a certain point of view, one of modern cinema's masters: a director who wants to work with productive frustration as he creates images using a distorting, bevelled lens to size up a world that is itself distorted.

Siobhan Synnot 17 Mar 2013

Mexican experimentalist Carlos Reygadas offers a perplexing, plotless plod about a dysfunctional family living in the countryside.

Dennis Schwartz 10 Feb 2014

An unusually bold and bizarre drama that offers a different way of looking at film.
