Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! (2017)

Ash Ketchum wakes up late one morning after having broken his alarm clock in his sleep. He eventually makes it to Professor Oak's lab, but is told that the three starter Pokémon, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander, have already been taken by Trainers who were on time. However, Oak reveals that he has one more Pokémon, an Electric-type named Pikachu. Despite its volatile and feisty personality, as well as its refusal to get inside a Poké Ball, Ash happily takes Pikachu for his journey.

Not as good as the other movies seemed unnecessary the best part was the end credits!

'I Choose You!' revitalises the series with an original take on the classic story. But this is not the Kanto you thought you knew. 20 years of Pokémon is encompassed with Ash's quest to seek Ho-Oh, but of course it is not quite that simple. The narrative has it's elements of darkness and manages to shift tone very successfully. The main characters are developed well and suit the general prèmise. However, as usual Team Rocket only add comic relief and nostalga to the story which unforunatly makes them superfluous. In terms of the score some may not be pleased that the original has been almost entirely replaced. Ed Goldfarb does, however, fabulously create a great sense of atmosphere and the original Pokémon theme is probably the best iteration since Paige's original. Overall, this films target is clearly the fan base but can still be entertaining to newcomers. Still, there are some improvements here from the original anime. Visually, the animation is lovely to look at, with the glittering rainbow-coloured feathers of the mystical Ho-Oh character especially mesmerising. If only the story is as compelling.

For the fans at heart, I personally found this update on the beginning's of Ash to be a real winner if not the best Poke-Feature Film.
