A compelling account of an ordinary guy who transformed himself through extraordinary circumstance.

Saw it, and wanted to forget it. Really, ain't worth that $15 price tag. The guy sat in a chair, talked about his ad- or mis-venture. There's footage like handdrawn movements to try to "connect" the missing link. Some footage of rebels purportedly fighting Khadaffi, but they were mostly joking, on-the-road jeep-ride shoot-breeze scenes. The guy smiles, holds a rifle here and there. Never (unless I snored away) saw him shooting.... I enjoyed most the 2-3 seconds when they pulled Khadaffi from underground (I thought that was him)....... Oh, it won in the Tribeca Festival, WOW, depressive. Snoooooooooooore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought provoking, it seems his intentions come from a place of selflessness, friendship, and desire to make a difference. But, it also seems he is narcissistic about watching himself while doing it. It seemed less about documenting the Libyan Revolution and more about documenting himself. Long stretches are just camera selfies of him and not his fellow soldiers. Very odd camera shots - 8 guys and he cuts them out and focuses on his face. That said, what he goes through is tough. Certainly no more difficult or terrifying than our own soldiers go through every day.

A very poignant and powerful story about an American who during a journey across the world, decides to help the friends he has made by fighting in the Libyan civil war.

Footage from VanDyke's travels provides the first-person narrative thrust to Point and Shoot, but Curry's interviews with VanDyke, back in his Baltimore home, are what give the film its larger, more challenging context.
