Point and Shoot (2014)

At first glance, Matthew VanDyke—a shy Baltimore native with a sheltered upbringing and a tormenting OCD diagnosis—is the last person you'd imagine on the front lines of the 2011 Libyan revolution. But after finishing grad school and escaping the U.S. for "a crash course in manhood," a winding path leads him just there. Motorcycling across North Africa and the Middle East and spending time as an embedded journalist in Iraq, Matthew lands in Libya, forming an unexpected kinship with a group of young men who transform his life. Matthew joins his friends in the rebel army against Gaddafi, taking up arms (and a camera). Along the way, he is captured and held in solitary confinement for six terrifying months.

Curry’s interest is in obsession, not Libya, yet surely a corrective is needed, and dressing up a nation’s collapse as if it were an American triumph smacks of the same willful delusion as George W. Bush’s “mission accomplished.”

A very powerful documentary. This is probably one of the most intense documentaries I have ever seen. It keeps you hooked until the very end. The story is very interesting it's about a man named Matthew who leaves his home in Baltimore and tries to find his manhood in Libya to fight with the rebels to fight Gaddafi's men. Now that takes guts. The beginning is very slow it takes awhile to get into the movie but near the middle of the movie that's when it starts to get interesting. If your a fan of documentaries that deal with war or current events then your going to enjoy this film.

VanDyke likes dressing up in military fatigues and playing with guns, to no useful effect other than filming it all in one long selfie on his camera.

Spoiled, self-obsessed, VanDyke only achieves brief flickers of awareness in his quest to complete the "crash course in manhood" that eventually led him to fight alongside Libyan rebels in 2011.

Incredible story. I would watch just to see the power of taken personal decisions and the impact it can have on one's life.
