I've never seen the actual stage show, but the screenplay is smart and...I couldn't help feeling a sense of understanding and hopelessness as well. There's some really fantastic acting, even by...ugh.. Sting. The character of Susan isn't likable, but you got to admit she's fierce. I think it's because I'm still young, but I can totally sympathize with Susan, as I've been disappointed with the world, after being so hopeful in my faith in humanity and the world. But I digress... Anyways, it's a watchable film. Does drag a bit during the dialogue, and you definitely need some intelligence and concentration to get through the movie.

I'm not a Meryl Streep fan. Saw this movie for Sting's small role. This movie was very slow.

Beautifully shot, conceptually muddy, peculiarly cast, ultimately worth it for the opportunity to gawp at Streep's terrific cheekbones and multitudinous array of very fine hats.

Meryl Streep is even better here than in her other more famous movie 1985 movie, Out of Africa. Based on David Hares wonderful play this film features Sir John Gielgud in one of his finest film performances as well.
