Anna Magnani's powerful and amazing Oscar winning performance makes this film. It's not a particularly cheery film, but the story is always interesting and the production is fine. Good support from Marisa Pavan. Realistic and believably told. Good acting by Burt Lancaster as well.

Burt Lancaster's character was so bumbling and lovable that you couldn't help but cheer him on in his quest for love. I loved this story and the super nosy community - even the priest was in on local gossip.

Loud, raucous, and schizophrenic, and those are the movies good points.

Burt Lancaster may get top billing but the real star of this film is the incomparable Anna Magnani. What a performance!
