The ending seems way too upbeat for Tennessee Williams, but it's still a story of tragedy in the South.

Anna Magnani's powerful and amazing Oscar winning performance makes this film. It's not a particularly cheery film, but the story is always interesting and the production is fine. Good support from Marisa Pavan. Realistic and believably told. Good acting by Burt Lancaster as well.

Absolutely horrible movie. Burt Lancaster should not have been cast in this role.

Tennessee Williams wrote this one for Anna Magnani who is excellent as Serfina, a grieving widow. Burt Lnacaster is a little over the top and so young in this one. Strong script and good story.
