Anna Magnani gives one of the most truthful and poignant performances ever seen on screen. She definitely is the driving force of the film.

Thanks to Tennessee Williams and his play The Rose Tattoo, Anna Magnani got the chance to prove to a large american audience that she was indeed the greatest actress in the world - and got the Oscar to prove it. The play is really not one of Williams very best, but it gets its definitive interpretation here even though Lancaster at times is a bit over the top. Thank god for Anna! And she is even better in her Italian films - especially in Belissima and Honorable Angelina.

Not Tennessee Williams' best, but this movie seemed tragic and realistic. I liked it and Anna Magnani gave a great performance.

a very good adaptation of another great by tennessee williams. i like how this play is very different from his other ones. instead of the usual alcohol drenched and sexually charged type this is more emotionally charged and a great story of a woman's love and devotion, he also adapted the traditional italian woman. anna maganani is simply brilliant. she gives a beautiful performance
