One of the best movies of the year. It has a strong ensemble cast headed by Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt. They play husband and wife New Yorker apartment owners who own a successful antique business and have a teenage daughter who is dealing with a bad complexion and being a teenager. They live next door to an old lady who is 90+ and is taken care of on a day to day basis by two granddaughters, one a nice person and the other a mean person. Keener and PLatt are waiting for the old lady to die so they can buy her apartment and expand their own. The movie is about these people dealing with their lives and Catherine Keener try to accept being really successful. With this success she is searching to give money and time back to society.

The perfect antidote to blockbuster season, Please Give is the kind of character driven flick you thought they didn't make anymore and Catherine Keener is in it. Well worth seeking out

Nicole Holofcener can do no wrong I love her slice of life stories that always offer and intelligent and honest look into women's lives. The humor in the film comes from it's very flawed characters and the honest to god character traits they display and situations they find themselves in. Edna by far stole every scene she was in with her blunt ways and props to Sarah Steele who not only proves she is a talented actress but actually takes on a honest teen role and her whole storyline with bad skin and wanting 100 dollars jeans how true it rings I think everyone at one point in time or another can certainly relate to that and what she is going through. Once again Catherine Keener is wonderful under the direction of Holofcener.

Please Give is specific about its middle-class, white, Manhattan characters but it's also universal in the way one social class' anxieties are understood rather than simply celebrated.
