A slow burn, but an interesting look at how relationships can evolve, along with the people in them.

The synopsis may sound like a thousand bad indie films with a GLBT slant, but Plan B is truly something special. Beautifully shot and with two utterly natural performances from Manuel Vignau and Lucas Ferraro, the film is perceptive, truthful, cliché free and does not fall into the traps of 'gay wish fulfilment', and never condescends or preaches. This is a film to treasure; moving, uplifting and finally deservedly optimistic. Punches are not pulled, the ending doesn't cop out. Recalls the likes of Y Tu Mamá También for its timelessness and emotional complexity, Plan B is a film I wish I could live in.

Plan A is 'make a great film that runs under 90 minutes'; PLAN B is 'make a great film'. By all rights Director Marco Berger's tale of an Argentina man's plan to win back his girlfriend by wooing her new love interest should have had me hitting the FF with its long, extended takes and silent montage sequences. But the acting by the two leads and Berger's bravado in not rushing his tale of unlikely romance pays off. It takes the full 100 minutes - so stay with it - but I found this film genuinely compelling - sometimes irritatingly so. I wanted to say 'who cares' and hit the OFF button but the guys are so truthful and down-to-earth that even the implausible premise seems perfectly likely. Mark PLAN B a success.

Interesting idea that is well presented and doesn't cop out at the end but it really would have benefitted from some strategic editing. There are far too many shots of blank static spaces which are I suppose meant to have a deeper meaning but they slow the film to a crawl at times. The two leads are very good and work well as a potential couple.

Marco Berger really knows how to show and how to handle emotion. In all of his creations the way he uses the camera is to create an atmosphere, a means to feel the tension that is building. He really has masteres in doing that, showing emotions, creating tension, narrating thoughts with his camera work. This is his very early movie and still it is really good, and feels like an early draft of what will come to be "Hawaii" his most perfect work till now.
