There's a sequence, about halfway in, when Ella Raines trails a shifty barkeep in chiaroscuro wow that'll stop you in your tracks.

Brilliant film noir, Ella Raines and Elisha Cook Jr. are magnificent, both in their best roles ever. The photography is outstanding, superb direction. I one of a kind film that is unforgettable.

Another classic Film Noir marked off the list, this one the story of a poor guy searching for the mystery woman in the distinctive hat who can clear his name by providing an alibi for the time of his wife's murder. Well worth a rental.

Film noir at its best!!! One of Ella Raines first movies, she helps exonerate her employer who she loves, she goes undercover at her own expense, dolls herself up and plays one hep kitten at one point to catch a killer on the loose.

Such a good looking noir, it's easy to overlook the silly plot with a "paranoiac" killer and a mysterious hat lady. It's good times Kansas!!
