Although the changes to the source material are guaranteed to polarize some Stephen King fans, Pet Sematary bucks the remake trap of simply paying homage to an iconic piece of horror. Instead, it makes drastic changes to the plot so it can ultimately go more complex with its themes. That’s a hell of a trick to pull off. Sometimes, different is better.

Such a great thing! Putting a character to die instead of another. Movie isn't necessarily boring, sometimes it's possible fun yourself and even scared yourself, photography is decent too but plot is still weak and characters are still painfully foolish.

But when they settle into a groove that aligns with the novel’s, the movie delivers great unsettling jolts that approximate the power of King’s vision.

The picture’s real weakness is that the reanimated dead display a great deal more vitality than the characters in their pre-killed state.

Believe it or not I actually like this remake better than the original. In my oninion the original Pet Sematary was a good movie, but it was flawed due to basically no character development. The original just didn't show me enough depth of character that allowed me to believe that a grown man would bury his child in that cemetery to bring them back from the dead. This version did that there was several flashbacks from the Mother's past about her sister that gave you some sympathy for her as the movie progresses. Where this move fails is the pacing. We can see that the director is trying to create suspense through longer drawn out scenes but it seems there could have been another method.
