Piss poor acting & direction, plot is hokey, and the characters are unbelievable, but there's still something attractive and endearing about it. I liked it, but barely. It was great to see Dick Sargent in something else besides Bewtiched and Peter Graves is always great. Fun popcorn movie to laugh at, but serious Sci-Fi it's not.

I've always believed that instead of constantly remaking good films, Hollywood should focus on mediocre films with promising ideas that were not executed well - and that is exactly what "The Island" did with this obscure oddity. Actually, while "remake" probably isn't the right word (since the makers of this launched a copyright infringement lawsuit), this film's low budget, mediocre acting and ridiculous plot holes (why is the so-called secret cloning facility located about a mile outside a big city?) prove that Michael Bay's mega-budget excess is better suited to the premise. Obviously, there a lot more explosions in "The Island", but the one explosion this film DOES have is so random and unexpected that it's a hell of a lot funnier.

Kind of like "Coma", but almost on the opposite end of the scale for the time. Whilst the idea behind the movie is not all that original, this probably could have been a lot better. In fact, it was a pretty good movie if you saw Mystery Science Theater 3000 when the passengers of the Satellite of Love were forced to watch this movie. Where this is not the greatest movie of the 1970s, the acting could have been a little better as well as movie dialog. You can certainly sympathize with the poor schmuck clones knowing what their destiny is. Thankfully some are inquisitive to find out what exist beyond the cloning facility, which sets the movie in motion. The great Peter Graves, pre-"Airplane!", and Dick Sargent are notable names within the film. On the bright side, you cannot help but think what a hack Michael Bay is for ripping this movie off for "The Island", but without too much product placement.
