Chung Mong-Hong decides to go all auteur with this debut, writing, directing and shooting the movie himself. Chung is no doubt an expert cinematographer with a great eye, displaying a range of techniques. The broken down narrative with it's stops and starts works pretty well too, except that it only scrapes on the surface of events and won't let the characters develop. Chung is really only close to something real and engaging when concentrating on the troubled relationship between Chang Chen and Kwai Lunmei, a story full of potential that now seems lost among all the odd characters and quirky situations Parking has to offer. The deadpan Chang Chen also has a few Buster Keaton-moments worth your while, before the somewhat forced ending. Things don't always have to come full circle, you know.

a very fresh and new genre to taiwanese cinema, and possibly the best art house film coming out of taiwan. definitely not a film for mainstream movie goers! "there is always something..." the way the story was put together was just like how Chen was connected to everyone he met. scattered pieces everywhere, yet there's always something that binds Chen to everyone in the story. written, directed, and shot by Chung. the cinematography shows his strong background as a tv commercial dp/director, his direction on Chang Chen is the best i have seen so far, and the story goes far beyond what we saw on film! definitely one of the best taiwanese films of 2008 along with "ORZ Boys" if you loved this film, then you will most likely enjoy "Last Life in The Universe"

I just feel that they do not act really natural in this movie... and I don't like the story either. I can't get into the movie....don't know if that's my own problem of understanding this story. I only like the part that Chen Chang acted that he was another person who has been killed just for pleasing a family that lost their son and father.

If you asked me about this movie, honestly, the filming was great! Good filming skills but the rest is just so so. The storyline was weird, the editing was bad and you would get confused during the movie... and the cast was not bad but due to the bad storyline, the cast can't get much out of it. Trust me, even though you pay a lot of attention on the movie and you will just get lost! Haha... and yes, the movie was really about Chen Chang parked his stupid car in a stupid spot... this is the entire movie.
