Parents (2007)

The dentist Oscar has been married for five years and lives with his wife and adopted children. On the surface everything seems to be fine but Oscar is not a happy man. His wants a baby of his own flesh and blood but it's not working out. When he finds out that his wife has been deceiving him all these years he decides it's time for a change. Einar is a stockbroker who is very successful at work but not in his personal life. For the last couple of months Einar has been living at a hotel waiting for his wife to realize the terrible mistake she made by throwing him out. Katrin Rose returns from Sweden where she has lived for eight years. In Iceland Katrin has an eleven-year-old son, brought up by his grandmother and now Katrin wants him back. Katrin gets a job as a dentist's assistant intending to make a fresh start but her troubled past catches up with her.

Wonderful black comedy about a boy in 1950's suburbia who suspects his parents might have a taste for... something... different. Great performances and wonderful kitsch. I put this one up there with Serial Mom in the Kitschy Black Comedy category.

This is another one of my favourites. I remember watching it when I was about 10 and being disturbed. It put me off meat for a long time. Funny, but very dark.

'My parents are so weird! Who knows what they get up to when the kids aren't watching?' That's one of the themes of this bizarre blend of deeply disturbing horror, black comedy, and goofy satire from actor-director Bob Balaban, which parodies the 1950s cultural milieu with enough vinegar to make even David Lynch squirm uncomfortably. Barely noticed by either critics or mainstream audiences on its initial release, Parents is all but forgotten today, which is a pity since, as far as I'm concerned, it's a marvelous film...until the disappointing ending which feels more like a conventional slasher film than a genre-bending existential rumination. The music, set design, and cinematography are all superbly evocative of the period, while perfectly balancing a deep sense of menace. The performances of Randy Quaid and Mary Beth Hurt as the titular characters, Bryan Madorsky as their troubled little boy, and the late Sandy Dennis as a concerned school counselor are excellent as well. Watch it!

Horrible... Absolutely revolting, makes me want break my television... And I love B horror horror/comedy, but this one belongs in the dumpster
