Awesome doc about the artist as asshole. God, Troy Duffy is one of the most unlikable, egotistical and hilarious people to ever walk the face of the earth. I went to film school with people just like this guy.

'There's more than one way to shoot yourself in Hollywood.' Essential viewing for anyone who harbours dreams of working in Hollywood. Barman Troy Duffy's story is the Hollywood dream come true - A film contract with Miramax on a script he penned, a record deal for his band "The Brood", even the bar he was working at is thrown in to the deal. Then, sit back and watch Duffy irrovocably screw up every opportunity he had, every relationship in his life (including his immediate family), before getting himself blacklisted in both the Movie and music industries. A cautionary tale that should be made a pre-requisite for every film course at every film school in the world. Mesmerising.

Quite revealing, yet it is another subjective documentary and although you can hate Duffy for being such a prick at times and leaning to megalomania, I think "Overnight" is slightly one-sided, doesn't do his "Boondock Saints" genius any justic and tends towards a personal vengeance-movie by Smith and Montana. Still an insightful, sometimes frightingly real documentary on the bad turns a production and the men behind it can take. THE cautionary tale about moviemaking and a must-see for every aspiring director.
