Not a great movie, but it has a lot of heart. Great supporting performances from young Astor, Cagney, and Blondell.

Oddly structured melodrama that climaxes awfully early and doesn't really know what to do after a certain character stops seeing things so clearly, as it were.

Wellman's a good director, and the actors are good enough, but the story is a boring drama with a bit of romance mixed in and a bit of tragedy too, but it doesn't all flow together right. It's okay, but it really could have been better.
