Once Fallen (2010)

When Chance (Brian Presley) returns home after five years in jail, he is determined to escape his past, start a new life and make peace with his father, (Ed Harris, Golden Globe® winner), who is the head of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang and serving a life sentence for murder. Upon his release, his dreams of a crime-free future begin to disintegrate when he is forced to assume his best friend's outrageous debt to a local mobster. Despite being thrust back into a world of organized fighting, drug dealing and ties to corrupt police agents, Chance falls in love with Pearl (Academy Award® nominee Taraji P. Henson) and the prospect of living a normal life seems almost within reach. But will he be able to escape the crimes of his father and his past?

Not very good, and poorly made too. It did have a couple good performances by Ed Harris and Peter Weller, but that's about it. Not a terrible film, but not really worth checking out either. 2/5

"Once fallen" was a very dark film, but the performances saved the film for me. While I know that Peter Weller's character was an aging "cool cat," his character got pretty worn out for me. His "hip" talk was laughable after a while. That was really the only flaw I saw in the film. I think it got a low rating because of it's content. Again, the performances were brilliant and that was well worth it for me. I'd rate this an easy three out of four stars.

The biggest problem for me was the lead Brian Presley. From the get go I didn't like him. Then I can't invest in the movie. Ed Harris as a psycho. Pretty good. Started well enough. Then in comes Don Johnson Miami vice like Presley who stepped right out of the 80s. So did the movie. It looked low budget also. Tarija P. Henson name on the cover but she is barely in this 10 minutes. Yet Stretchmark face Amy Madigan seems to pop up constantly. Just before you reach desperate measures , up pops Sharon Gless from Cagney and Lacey in a wheelchair looking ridiculous. The kids were good actors though. Nevermind, avoid this shitfest.

A nicely done feature with a good storyline. This was a good Indie film with some really good actors... Ed Harris, Taraji P. Henson, Brian Presley, and Peter Weller. The pace may have been slow in moments, but I thought that it was effective, and in tune with the overall film. This movie makes you believe again in second chances. I enjoyed it!
