Interesting look at young culture in Alaska within the backdrop of a tragic death. While I liked many facets of the film suffers from the use of non-professionals in the lead roles. still worth a watch.

An authentic look at life in remote Alaska (the film was shot with a native cast in MacLean's hometown of Barrow) and at a people grappling with drugs, alcoholism, poverty and the limits of an unforgiving environment.

Got to see On The Ice at Sundance, and it is not to be missed!! A poignant - and suspenseful - film, set against a truly stunning backdrop with hauntingly beautiful music. The performances are personal, there is real craft to the story-telling, and the film offers insight into a community most of us have little familiarity with. Go see it while you can!

Set in a remote Alaskan village, the film's great strength is making the landscape utterly extraordinary to the audience but painfully mundane to its protagonists.

This is an uncommonly involving thriller. I could call it a film noir, except that the sun never sets in the film. That makes a perfect contrast with the only other feature filmed in Barrow, the vampire movie "30 Days of Night" (2007), in which it never rises.
