In the summer of 1991 an elderly woman Ghislaine Marchal is found murdered in the basement of her home with the message "Omar M'a Tuer" (Omar has kill me) written beside in her own blood. Despite a lack of forensic or DNA evidence, her Moroccan gardener Omar Raddad is found guilty and sentenced to 18 years in a French prison. Shocked by the case, and convinced of his innocence, journalist Pierre-Emmanuel Vaugrenard moves to Nice to investigate, and uncover the truth...

Thrilling movie about a French legal scandal, based on a true story. Sami Bouajila is brilliant as Omar, who is falsely accused of a murder.

A very beautiful film about the innocence of a man condemned because he was an Arab in France. Too bad it took 20 years to pledge his innocence.

A great film, taking the viewer through so many loops of emotion. A solid cast but Sami Bouajila shines, completely dissolved into Raddad. Add this to your list.

Bouajila, in particular, is excellent in the lead role, convincingly internalising complex emotions: defiance, desperation, anger, and defeat.

A French woman is found murdered. With her blood, she has written "Omar m'a tuer" = "Omar killed me". It's not correct French. It's not the way a French woman would write such a thing, But Omar is the Muslim gardener from Morocco and it suits a racist police force, prosecutioner and court to find him guilty. But a journalist starts to investigate... This is more than just your common trial drama, because there isn't much drama around. The story isn't what's most important, it's what the story does to those involved. That makes this a more effective cry for justice than any clever lawyer freedom fighter show. Good acting in a French environment we're not used to. The rhetorics are less important than the silences. Roschdy Zem is the director and he lifts a tired archetype, shakes it and returns it to us. Thanks for that.
