It's nice to see something new and innovative coming from the j-horror scene. KÃ?Â´ji Shiraishi wonderfully makes use of the mockumentary form and delivers a ghost story, that, indeed, is scary. Too bad they ruined the full experience with some unnecessary (and sloppy) CGI in the end.

A Blair Witch style Japanese horror that doesn't make sense until half way through-- the last five minutes are disturbing but most of the film is ruined by a comical psychic character.

I'd heard a lot about the film since it's release and was always desperate to see it. I finally got the chance last night with two friends who wanted a creepy night in. Even though Noroi falls short of an out-and-out scarefest, with very few jumps, it is surprisingly clever and novel and a rewarding cinematic experience. Small vignettes of paranormal goings on are presented haphazardly, each providing their own little chill, as we learn about the demonic rituals of a now destroyed village and their obsession with Kagutaba, everything is woven together to make one rather unsettling, hellish rope. Don't expect to be hiding behind pillows or screaming every ten minutes - do expect to be engaged and morbidly curious, and probably a little uneasy as the credits roll.

One of my absolute favorites of the found footage/mockumentary horror sub-genre, Noroi represents Shiraishi's most successful foray into the genre as he blends a series of bizarre and seemingly unrelated characters and events together into one larger, paranormal occurrence. Strange and creepy, Noroi will keep you guessing from one moment to the next and continually suprise you on the long, strange, scary, and stylish march towards its conclusion.

Finally they have this movie listed on Flixster! This movie is my favorite horror movie, hands down. From the fantastic acting, to the realism, to the way the story unfolds...just great.
