Narcotics Sergeant Nick Tellis, on leave after a trauma, is called back to investigate the murder of fellow undercover operative Michael Calvess, joined by the victim's unpredictable and brutal ex-partner, Henry Oak. An awesome cop/buddy drama where neither character is the lead. This is one of the most believable police drama's I've ever seen. Excellently directed and acted.

Attention petit chef dâ(TM)Å"uvre du genre (film noir, polar). Le film qui annonce la sÃ (C)rie The Shield. Si vous aimez les polars poisseux, rapides et durs : vous devez voir ce film. Peut Ãªtre le plus grand film noir des annÃ (C)es 2000. A noter la musique parfaite du toujours excellent Cliff Martinez (compositeur attitrÃ (C) de Steven Sodrebergh : Traffic, Ocean 11...). Ray Liotta et Jason Patric sont mÃ (C)connaissables dans un DÃ (C)troit hivernal et fantomatique pesant.

A dark mediation on obsession and addiction, Carnahanâ??s debut wallows in urban and social decay. The mise en scene is filled with snow bound empty warehouses and disused tenements making Detroit look like a literal (frozen) hell on earth, whilst Cliff Martinezâ??s score is a work of Eno lite ambient beauty and brings the films only warmth. Liotta is a powerhouse as a raging bull of a cop and reminds us that when not in quick buck straight to vid crap he can be quite the actor and Patricâ??s performance is one of quiet understated frustration and disillusion. One of the greatest films of the last ten years in my opinion, if Carnahan can resist the big budget crap he could be an heir to Friedkin. And check it out! I got to the end of the review without saying â??grittyâ?? once! Until now...

This is a superb little movie, gritty, violent and intense. This is a great little cop movie that is akin to days of old gritty cop movies, phenomenal performances from patric and Liotta
