Fifth Avenue socialite Irene Bullock needs a "forgotten man" to win a scavenger hunt, and no one is more forgotten than Godfrey Park, who resides in a dump by the East River. Irene hires Godfrey as a servant for her riotously unhinged family, to the chagrin of her spoiled sister, Cornelia, who tries her best to get Godfrey fired. As Irene falls for her new butler, Godfrey turns the tables and teaches the frivolous Bullocks a lesson or two.

My all-time favorite! A really great romantic comedy without a hint of sentimentality. William Powell does more with a few cocked eyebrows than most actors can achieve with a page of dialog. Was anyone more fiesty than Carole Lombard?

Gregory La Cava did for talkies what Chaplin did for silent cinema; he invented a language with which to tell stories (albeit often-ignored or unappreciated one). Add to this the fact that nobody can draw a performance from an actor like La Cava and you the most important, assured and inventive comic that the screen has ever encountered. My Man Godfrey is his masterpiece, and would go on to influence everyone from Howard Hawks to Peter Bogdanovich to Larry David and beyond?

I'm not sure exactly what I'm supposed to say about My Man Godfrey. It's pretty much perfect, and Carole Lombard was one of the funniest women who ever lived. What really else do you need to know? You can buy this film for three bucks at Best Buy. Please, please add it to your collection. Unless you're one of those people who doesn't like old movies. I don't know how you sleep at night if you're one of those people.

Lombard is deliciously entertaining - I love watching her interact with the Bullock family and beloved Godfrey while battling her girlish reactions to a first love. One to watch again and again.
