Fourteen-year-old Mo is a lonely, sensitive boy whose hunger for the rant and banter of buddies makes him prone to tread dangerous territories. He idolizes his handsome older brother, Rashid, a charismatic, well-respected member of a local gang, whose drug dealing enables "Rash" to provide for his family. Aching to be seen as a tough guy himself, Mo takes a job that unlocks a fateful turn of events and forces the brothers to confront their inner demons. It turns out that hate is easy. It is love and understanding that take real courage.

I rarely give a 5 star review. But this is PURE CINEMA! It has everything. Complex characters, exciting story with something to (subtly) say, gorgeous cinematography (it won at Sundance) and remarkably well judges direction for a first time filmmaker! Sally El Hosaini is one for the future for sure! She reminds me of when Scorsese burst onto the scene with Mean Streets. Also, special mention must go to the cinematographer and even more so the acting of James Floyd. He truly is an incredibly complex face and presence. He brings vulnerability to one of the toughest young characters in British cinema. This is truly international filmmaking, unlike the usual urban crap that we are forced to try and like in UK. Bring on BAFTAs and maybe even OSCARS. I really feel it is that good.

I saw 'My brother the devil' last night and thought the movie was excellent. Excellent cinematography which raises questions about life, where you grow up, and the path one takes.
