A very well done horror/comedy hybrid, Murder Party really moves and far exceeds expectations. It does things rarely done in horror films: it builds its characters, it features intelligent dialogue and it really builds up to the suspenseful and gory parts by showing all the little things that happen up to that point. It both adds to the strength of the pacing and helps build the main character up when the film's early scenes go to such pains to show all the little things he does: his watch's time-to-take-your-pill alarm; his power struggle with his cat over the best chair, his baking something to bring to the party. Once the gore and nastiness kick into high gear, you appreciate it much more for having some stake in each of the characters. The gore is relatively convincing, especially considering the film's low budget. All in all, a highly worthwhile and quite entertaining flick. I'll be sure to check out future Lab of Madness releases whenever they can get funding for another.

I loved this movie, it was hilarious and the gore was well done. Excellently ridiculous and just a thrill to watch.

MURDER PARTY definitely isn't for everybody, if you don't believe me just check out reviews elsewhere which seem to be divided into two camps;"brilliant, hilarious,& well acted" and "the worst movie I ever saw" in almost equal numbers which is how we wound up with an over-all 3 star rating for the flick. I'm obviously on the the positive side for this unexpected little gem of a horror comedy. It might be better served by comparisons to FIDO than to SHAUN OF THE DEAD since its more of a satire than anything else. Perhaps the fact that it is a satire of the pretentious world of modern art is what puts the nay sayers off. When you say horror comedy these days people automatically think "splat-stick" and expect EVIL DEAD or DEAD-ALIVE, but there's more to comedy than pratfalls and pies in the face as FIDO proved and MURDER PARTY underscores. I hope to see much more from these guys in the future!
