Coming of age and first romance story for a Hispanic Los Angelena. Focuses on just that relationship with little else explored. Mari holds her family's poverty and struggles secret from her best friend and growing romance, which seems to be the only real challenge in the film. But the performances of the title characters carries this narrative.

Ms. Pineda and Ms. Troncoso give wonderfully natural performances in which they convey the impulsiveness and insecurity of adolescence. You are uncomfortably reminded of what it feels like to be 15.
