Women of the Third World unite, Moolaadé shouts. You have nothing to lose at all.

My first Sembene film. He has such a deft, light, masterful touch. He can't be hurried or pressured to force anything, even when the subject is female mutilation. If he were in 1930s Hollywood, he would have made movies like Lubitsch.

Moolaadé shows us the deepest thoughts of a group of girls trying to be protected by the main character, Collé, by using moolaadé (magical protection) and boy, how much I want to watch this movie over and over again.

Fatoumata Coulibaly's peformance is striking. She plays her character with a mixture of determination and compassion.
